A 30-year-old woman was awarded Rs. 15 lakhs in compensation for a lack of medical care in a precedent-setting decision on Wednesday. The woman, Sk. Rasheela Bhanu received redress from the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission following a protracted seven-year court struggle.

Mr. Ginka Reddy Sekhar, the president of the panel, discovered that the woman had experienced acute intestinal obstruction as a result of the cotton mop that was left in her stomach after the C-section.

According to the report, the woman gave birth to a girl on November 27, 2015. On June 12, 2017, the surgical mop in her gut was removed at KIMS Hospital in Nellore. On November 30, 2017, she addressed the commission to request reimbursement for medical expenses and the mental agony she suffered.

The hospital and Dr. Ruby Jose, who oversaw the Obstetrics and Gynecology department at the time, were instructed to follow the directive within 45 days. If they did not pay the compensation by the deadline, they were told to pay 9% interest per year starting on the day of the decree.
